Where Do You Draw the Line?
An invitation to draw lines together; and an intro for what to expect here in July / August.
Hi, dear reader.
Today, I want to invite you to two activities (as if summer isn’t already busy enough—I know!). If this isn’t for you right now, I hope you still enjoy some of the art in this piece. If you can think of a friend who might enjoy this, invite them, too!
A line drawing workshop “Draw the line(s)”
“Might Finish, Might Not”—make progress by finding the sweet spot somewhere between full avoidance and forced productivity. A four-week experimental low pressure support container to stay engaged.
Draw the line(s).
If you’ve been here for a while, you know that I like to draw lines. You may have even spotted them in my Purposeful Connection logo. I enjoy the pattern and being able to start anywhere without a plan; mindfully. I find it fascinating that while the basic movement is always the same, the final image never is.
One of my pieces—a gold on black line drawing—received lots of love and attention when I shared it on Substack notes recently and some of you have asked:
How do you do it?
Today I’m excited to share that
and I will be hosting a virtual gathering where we play with drawing lines together: Draw the line(s).You can register now to let us know you’ll be joining us and to add the event to your calendar:

Here are the details:
When and Where?
July 10th, 10-11:15 am Pacific Time via Zoom.
Agenda:
intro (5 minutes)
meditation (10-15 minutes)
demonstration / ideas (10 minutes)
3 rounds of drawing, reflecting, and (optional) sharing (45 minutes)
You're invited to practice a formal meditation in any posture (seated, standing, lying down, walking), led by
.Here’s a bit about the meditation Logan practices and teaches in their own words:
“I began practicing Buddhist meditation within the Thai Forest Tradition almost two decades ago, but am now fairly eclectic. I'm continually inspired by how creativity and mindfulness can illuminate each other, so I'm honored to offer a secular breath-based meditation to your community.”
What to bring:
Any kind of pen and any kind of paper. This isn’t about creating masterpieces, so pencil and copy paper is fine if that’s what you’ve got. You can also bring acrylic pens, fine liners, ink pens, ball point pens, fine sharpies, or even watercolor. Basic white paper, a page in your journal, watercolor paper, construction paper, etc. — anything goes!
One of my favorite ways to draw lines is to make watercolor 'blobs’ first and then use the shape of the different colors and shades as a guide for my lines. If you’d like to try this out, I invite you to prepare some blobs ahead of time (marker or highlighter works, too!).

I don’t want to wait, can I try this now?
Friend, you don’t need my permission and you know that!
Below is inspiration for you—some are mine, and some are by
who has been drawing lots and lots of circles and shared some of her line drawings with me to include in this piece. Please don’t make exact copies, but see where inspiration leads you!
If you create something and share it on notes, please tag me—I’d love to see it!
If you’re feeling intimated, I invite you to bring out your inner child (and/ or bring your child(ren) along!). For inspiration, here’s my daughter’s art from last weekend.
Where in you can you find this kind of energy? Playful, curious, fun, experimental, learning, noticing, practicing, …
I hope you can join us! Here is the link to sign up for the event one more time:
Might Finish Might Not - July / August “anti-productivity summer camp”
Do you have a project for the summer? A paper to finish? A pantry you’ve been wanting to re-organize for ages? An art project that feels… stuck? Toys to declutter? A community event to organize? An assignment to write?
I’ve had a task on my to-do list for ages: To finish writing one of my assignments for my coaching qualification. It’s doable and values aligned; and it’s also not the most shiny thing. But I want it done. So, in true ADHD fashion, I created a whole system to make it easier for me to get (and stay) engaged in it—and it worked! I am not done yet, but I made lots of progress.
The key: I intentionally designed it to not be a productivity sprint.
The goal for me was not to finish the thing (though it would have been nice; not gonna lie), but to be engaged in it—with agency and self-compassion. So, I created a curious, experimental, low-pressure 4-week support container to see what might happen when I stay lightly connected to something that matters—without disappearing (fully) into avoidance or forcing myself to do the thing.
Now that it’s been tried and tested, I am inviting you along. I tested it along a couple of beta testers and one of my takeaways was that doing it together is a key factor.
We’ll kick off week 1 on July 14th—not by jumping right in, but by setting an intention, defining success, and setting up a support structure.
I’ll share all details next Friday (July 11), so stay tuned.

Until next week!
Take care,

This looks amazing Hanna. What a brilliant idea. That time clashes with another appointment I have (actually, a Substack Live) but I'd love to attend a similar workshop in future! Hope it goes brilliantly and I look forward to hearing all about it in due course!
What a wonderful post! Truly a glimmery part of my day today. I am so sad not to be able to join your drawing workshop, I will be away next week and the timezone won't work for me. But I loved the mini-demo and will be having a go whilst I am away for sure.
I'm also intrigued by your summer club and have just the project in mind, so may well join you there. Yay!
